Andy Thompson has over 30 years of experience guiding students to successful entry into top universities in the UK - Oxford, Cambridge, and the Russell Group. Andy runs an education consultancy with a reputation for developing innovative approaches to the delivery of sixth-form education. He is also a Director of Bath Tutorial College, a partnership with Crown Guardians, where he provides an academic consultancy service for their students.
Andy was the Principal of one of the leading tutorial colleges in Oxford and the UK for 12 years. He has been a member of the executive body of the Council for Independent Education (CIFE) (the national professional body for tutorial colleges), where he was chairman of the organisation’s Academic Affairs Committee. He is also a consultant to the Independent Schools Association, where he has led professional development for schools on entry to Oxbridge.
Andy has written extensively on schools and university education in the UK press (including the Daily Telegraph), appearing also on BBC Radio. He has spoken about successful university applications at national and international events, including the British Council’s Moscow show.
He has also worked on curriculum development for English Literature A level with the Oxford and Cambridge (OCR) Awarding Body. Andy read English Literature at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and, as a guest speaker on the University of Oxford’s outreach programme, has lectured on a wide range of topics in literature.
Andy’s interest in education extends across the whole curriculum. He was chairman of the Parent Forum at West Oxford Primary School (age range 3 – 12) for several years. He co-founded the Oxford Consortium, a forum in Oxford where sixth-form college principals can share their knowledge and expertise.
